Roles & Responsibilities

The Commission on Aging along with the county aging unit, is the policy, planning, and community organizing group designated by the county to be the focal point for county aging activities. Its original purpose was to assure that older people had the opportunity to realize their full potential and completely participate in and have access to all areas of community life. Since Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC’s) have come into play, Commission on Aging boards have frequently evolved into ADRC boards.

The Commission on Aging / ADRC Board is the body within a county which represents the views, interests, and concerns of elderly individuals as well as disabled people in county related functions and decisions. The board is responsible for identifying and promoting ways in which older or disabled individuals can contribute to the community’s general welfare.
