The
Peterson Style Bluebird houses made by the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park can be
obtained through the Ozaukee County Planning, Resources and Land Management Department at a cost of
$10.00 each.
They are constructed out of cedar wood (gray staining) and are made to allow for easy cleaning and
installation.
Bluebird populations have declined by as much as 90% over the last 50
years. They are a cavity nesting bird and with the disappearance of dead trees and wooden
fence posts, they lack enough sites to breed successfully. Bluebirds must also compete for
nesting with the imported house sparrow.
We can help the bluebirds by providing them with properly built and placed nesting
boxes. Concerned citizens who provide bluebird houses and monitoring of them are helping
the bluebirds make a strong recover.
Bluebird houses and several others types of nesting boxes can be purchased Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
