Radon gas in your home can cause lung cancer. The Public Health Department encourages resident to protect their health by taking action to test their homes for radon gas. As winter approaches and you close up your house to keep out the cold, you may also be closing in harmful radon gas.
Radon Gas Origin
Radon gas can enter your home through the basement or slab. When the windows are closed, radon stays inside your house. It only takes 12 hours of having the windows closed for radon gas to reach its highest level in your home.
The main factor to remember is that radon comes from the ground your home is built on. The ground under your home may have radon levels that are low or high. However, the only way to know if radon is entering your home is to test the air in your home.
